Palm Springs has no shortage of chic, midcentury modern hotels that take inspiration from the town’s 1960s heyday when Hollywood A-listers escaped the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles in search of desert tranquility. And its newest stay, Life House Palm Springs, not only channels the town’s golden age of glamour but also incorporates Japanese influences and botanical elements. The result? A stunning 66-key desert hotel, opening its doors on Nov. 13, that is well worth adding to your Palm Springs itinerary.
Housed in a former 1960s property, which has been entirely redesigned by Kockum Design studio, Life House Palm Springs treats travelers to sleek Mad Men-esque decor with a nod to the surrounding landscape by way of the desert-inspired color scheme of burnt oranges, rust, deep greens, and taupe. An elegant midcentury modern lounge area and an agave green check-in desk complement the lobby’s striking geometric-tiled cork floor.
In the rooms, sunset-hued custom-designed fabric covers the headboards of the oak-wood beds, flanked by sconces inspired by Japanese silk fans.
At the heart of the hotel is the vibrant pool area, with reclining vintage-inspired chaise lounges and sun umbrellas. Several cabanas with fringed canopies are also available for travelers seeking more space and privacy. The pool is serviced by Minerva’s, the hotel’s signature eatery that spills outside and features a poolside bar and restaurant, serving California flavors prepared with seasonal, local ingredients.
Nearby is the cactus desert garden clubhouse with a gazebo, fire pits, and plush seating, ideal for post-dinner drinks. Inside, Minerva’s feels like an elegant speakeasy lounge with dining booths, a lacquered ceiling, and striking House of Hackney floral wallpaper.
Nightly room rates at Life House start from $229 on weekdays and $329 on weekends. You can book your stay on lifehousehotels.com
